Position Overview
We are seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Anesthesiologists to provide comprehensive anesthesiology services for eligible Veterans at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Providers will deliver high-quality anesthesia care in accordance with VA standards and nationally recognized clinical guidelines.
This position supports a 24/7 anesthesia service line, including scheduled operating room coverage, on-call responsibilities, holidays, and overtime as required.
Key Responsibilities
Provide full-spectrum anesthesiology services consistent with current American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) standards
Deliver anesthesia care for a wide range of surgical procedures, including:
Cardiac, orthopedic, vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, ENT, urologic, plastic, and ophthalmologic surgeries
Procedures in catheterization labs, GI, radiology, and ECT suites
Provide anesthesia coverage for:
Operating rooms
Intensive care units
Emergency airway management
Acute and chronic pain management
Participate in on-call coverage, nights, weekends, and holidays
Accurately document all patient care in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Participate in quality assurance, patient safety initiatives, and required meetings
Adhere to all VA policies related to patient safety, privacy, infection control, and clinical documentation
Schedule & Coverage
Standard hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
24/7 coverage required, including:
On-call after-hours coverage
Weekends and federal holidays
On-call physicians must be:
Available by phone within 15 minutes
Able to report on-site within 60 minutes when called
Minimum Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology (American Board of Anesthesiology)
Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territoryCurrent BLS and ACLS certification
Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing and privileging
Valid DEA registration
National Provider Identifier (NPI)
Fluent in spoken and written English
