Cetechs is seeking experienced Journeyman Pipefitters to support the Department of Veterans Affairs at the North Texas VA Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. This position supports critical hospital infrastructure by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing, steam, gas, medical gas, and mechanical piping systems within an active healthcare environment.
Position Summary
The Journeyman Pipefitter performs skilled maintenance, repair, and installation of:
- Medical gas systems
- Steam and condensate piping
- Domestic water systems
- Drain, waste and vent systems
- Plumbing systems
- Sterilizer equipment
- Laundry equipment
- Dietetic/kitchen equipment
- Mechanical piping systems
Work is performed independently while coordinating daily assignments with VA personnel.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and institutional piping systems.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics.
- Install and repair steam, gas, water, drainage, and medical gas piping.
- Perform code-compliant installations and repairs.
- Diagnose plumbing and mechanical system failures.
- Complete daily work reports and timecards.
- Report work status to the VA Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
- Follow all OSHA, NFPA, VA, and Joint Commission safety requirements.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Work safely in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, basements, rooftops, manholes, and other confined areas.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Active Texas Journeyman Plumber/Pipefitter License
- Minimum 4 years of Journeyman Pipefitter experience
- OSHA certification
- Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Experience with:
- Commercial plumbing
- Steam systems
- Medical gas systems
- High-pressure piping
- Hospital or industrial facilities
- Ability to lift, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation
Preferred
- Previous VA, military, or hospital maintenance experience
- Medical gas certification
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs
- Experience working in occupied healthcare facilities
Schedule
- Monday-Friday
- 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
- 80 hours per pay period
- Overtime may be available with advance approval
Federal holidays observed by the VA are generally non-working days.

This position is performed in an active hospital environment and includes work:

- Manholes
- Around steam and hot water systems
- Around medical gas systems
The role requires frequent standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and exposure to typical maintenance hazards while following strict safety procedures.

- Steel-toe work boots
