Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified Medical Technologist to perform laboratory testing, analyze samples, and provide accurate diagnostic information to healthcare providers. The position is responsible for conducting complex laboratory tests, maintaining quality control, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results to support patient care at VA facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex clinical laboratory testing in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and other specialties
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated laboratory equipment
  • Conduct quality control procedures and maintain proper documentation
  • Validate and report test results in the laboratory information system
  • Monitor test results for accuracy and alert healthcare providers of critical values
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs
  • Train and mentor other laboratory personnel as needed
  • Stay current with new testing methodologies and procedures
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory certification requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
  • Current ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical laboratory experience
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and regulations
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, and CLIA requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in VA or federal healthcare settings
  • Additional specialty certifications
  • Experience with quality management systems
  • Knowledge of laboratory automation systems
  • Supervisory experience
