Position Overview

We are seeking a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) to provide onsite diagnostic vascular ultrasound services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) New Jersey Health Care System – East Orange Campus.

The technologist will perform a full range of vascular diagnostic studies using ultrasound technology to assist physicians in diagnosing vascular diseases and circulatory conditions in veteran patients.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, patient care skills, and the ability to operate ultrasound diagnostic equipment in a clinical hospital environment.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Perform vascular ultrasound diagnostic examinations in accordance with VA and national standards.

  • Evaluate vascular blood flow, limb volume changes, cerebral circulation, peripheral circulation, and abdominal circulation.

  • Operate ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.

  • Analyze Doppler waveforms and vascular imaging results.

  • Document imaging findings and preliminary reports in the electronic health record.

  • Communicate diagnostic findings to physicians and clinical staff.

  • Review vascular study consults and schedule procedures appropriately.

  • Ensure proper patient preparation and education prior to examinations.

  • Maintain patient safety and infection control standards.

  • Clean and disinfect ultrasound equipment and workspace.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and report malfunctions.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate documentation within the VA electronic medical record system.

  • Participate in quality assurance and patient safety initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with VA clinical protocols and imaging standards.

  • Respond to patient and provider inquiries related to vascular imaging services.

  • Maintain adequate supplies and ensure equipment readiness.


Minimum Qualifications

Education & Certification

Candidates must possess one of the following:

  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
    OR

  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

Licensure

  • Active and unrestricted license to practice in the United States.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of vascular ultrasound experience preferred.

  • Experience performing advanced vascular imaging procedures.

  • Experience working in hospital or outpatient diagnostic imaging settings preferred.


Required Skills & Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of vascular anatomy and disease processes.

  • Proficiency in Doppler ultrasound imaging and waveform analysis.

  • Strong ability to document findings accurately in electronic medical records.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare providers.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment.


Required Compliance & Credentials

Candidates must meet federal healthcare requirements including:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Current immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Influenza, etc.)

  • Tuberculosis screening

  • Background investigation clearance

  • Completion of VA mandatory training programs
