Boiler Plant Operator (BPO) – VA Medical Center | Nashville, TN
Role Overview
We are seeking experienced Boiler Plant Operators to support 24/7 operations at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) VA Medical Center in Nashville. This is a critical role supporting hospital infrastructure and patient safety. Operators are responsible for safely operating, monitoring, and maintaining high-pressure boiler plant systems.
Schedule & Work Environment
Full-time (40 hours/week)
Shift coverage includes 1600–2400 and 2400–0800
Must be available for emergency call-outs (up to 30 additional hours per employee annually)
Work on federal holidays when scheduled
Onsite role at VA Medical Center (hospital environment)
Training Requirements
Minimum 90 days of onsite training before operating independently
Training schedule is typically Monday–Friday, 0800–1600
Continued employment is contingent on successful completion of training
Key Responsibilities
Operate, start up, and shut down high-pressure boilers
Monitor boiler plant systems, alarms, pressures, and gauges
Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance (PMs)
Test and operate safety devices and control equipment
Maintain operational logs and documentation
Support emergency generators and facility monitoring
Prepare equipment for inspections
Perform additional utility-related tasks as required
Equipment & Systems Experience
High-pressure steam boilers (up to 2,500 HP)
Deaerator tanks
Hot well tanks and pumps
Boiler control and safety systems
Required Experience & Certifications
5+ years experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers
Required certifications/training:
OSHA 10
Confined Space Entry
VHA Safe Steaming Course
360 Training – Boiler Operator Certification
Factory training (AutoFlame, AERCO, Direct Logic, C-More)
Safety testing / BEI training (completed onsite)
Ability to pass VA background check and obtain VA badge (Real ID required)
