Position Summary

Position Summary
Cetehcs is seeking Health Informatics Specialist (SME) to lead advanced health information management and analytics initiatives within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of health information technology systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility to support patient care, administration, research, and compliance efforts throughout VA facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, deployment, and ongoing optimization of electronic health record (EHR) and health information systems that support clinical care, research, and business operations within VA.
- Apply both clinical expertise and informatics best practices to solve health care administrative and operational problems—including data exchange, documentation standards, and interoperability between VA and external partners.
- Advise VA leadership on informatics strategy, including integration of EHR with organizational workflows, leveraging artificial intelligence and data analytics for operational improvement.
- Ensure the privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient information in all informatics activities, staying current with federal compliance and cybersecurity standards.
- Provide training and guidance to clinical and administrative staff on optimal use of health information systems and emerging technologies.
- Serve as a liaison between clinicians, IT professionals, and system vendors during the implementation and modification of computerized health care tools.
- Participate in clinical informatics research, performance improvement projects, and program evaluation efforts.
- Support VA’s informatics modernization initiatives—such as the migration to the Cerner EHR system—and contribute to change management activities for improved care delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in health informatics, information systems, healthcare administration, nursing, computer science, or a related field.
- Significant experience (typically 8+ years) implementing and managing EHR or health informatics systems in a healthcare environment, preferably within the VA or another large, integrated health system.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in health informatics, including experience leading interdisciplinary teams and strategic projects.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of EHR systems, informatics tools, and healthcare data standards.
- Proficiency with clinical workflows, data management, and analytics platforms.
- Excellent communication, teaching, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Advanced problem solving and project management abilities.
