Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified Hematology/Oncology Physician to provide comprehensive patient care services at the New Mexico VA Health Care System in Albuquerque. This role includes outpatient clinic care, inpatient consultation services, and on-call coverage supporting the veteran population.

This is an opportunity to deliver high-quality specialty care to those who have served our country while working within a collaborative VA healthcare team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hematology and oncology care to veteran patients in outpatient clinics and inpatient settings.

  • Conduct patient evaluations including full history, physical exams, and diagnostic testing.

  • Perform procedures including:

    • Bone marrow biopsies and aspirations

    • Lumbar punctures

    • Venous and arterial punctures

  • Manage patient treatment plans including chemotherapy monitoring and follow-up care.

  • Participate in tumor board meetings, peer reviews, and quality improvement activities.

  • Provide consultation services to other departments including ER, ICU, and general medicine wards.

  • Document patient care in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.


Schedule

  • Clinic Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

  • On-Call Coverage:

    • Weeknights: 4:30 PM – 8:00 AM

    • Weekends and holidays: 24-hour coverage

  • Approximate clinic schedule includes new patient and follow-up appointments daily.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Board Certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology (ABIM)

  • Active unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification

  • Valid DEA registration

  • Ability to obtain VA credentialing and privileging

Preferred:

  • Experience working in hospital or integrated healthcare systems

  • Experience supervising trainees or medical residents

  • Familiarity with VA or federal healthcare environments
